Amitabh Bachchan, the legendary film actor, and great personality was born on 11 October 1942 in Allahabad (prayagraj), in Uttar Pradesh, India. His father was the famous poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan and his mother and Teji Bachchan. In the beginning, his father named him Inquilaab but later changed his son’s name to Amitabh. Amitabh in the Hindi language means the light that will never die. Amitabh’s actual surname is Shrivastava, but his father took the pen-name Bachchan and gave this name to all his family members. Amitabh has a younger brother, Ajitabh Bachchan.

Amitabh studied at the Sherwood College boarding school in Nainital for 3 years from 1956 to 1958. Later attended the famous Kirori Mal College, Delhi University from where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1962.
Movie Career
Amitabh Bachchan made his debut in the movie industry as a voice narrator in 1969 for the film Bhuvan Shome. His first movie as an actor was Saat Hindustani followed by a film with Rajesh Khanna, the then superstar in Anand. For this movie, Amitabh got his first Filmfare best-supporting actor award. He continued with his acting career with small insignificant roles. However, his film career and life changed when he bagged a leading role in the movie Zanjeer in 1973. For Zanjeer, Amitabh earned his first Filmfare nomination for Best Actor. Thereafter there was no looking back for him. In 1975, he appeared in two blockbuster movies of the millennium, Deewar and Sholay. These movies catapulted Amitabh as the number one film star of the Hindi film industry. With this Amitabh Bachchan became popular as the angry young man of Bollywood. Amitabh Bachchan has since then appeared in scores of movies, most of which have been blockbusters.
