Swami Vivekananda Biography 

Swami Vivekananda is the person who carried the eastern culture to the West. A child of divine radiance and effulgence took birth in the pious and affluent family of Vishwanath Datta and Bhuvaneshwari Devi on 12th January 1862 at Simooliya, a small village in Kolkata. His father was Viswanatha Dutt. Bhuvneswari Devi was his mother. Vivekananda was named Narendra Nath Dutta by his parents. The same child evolved into the great Swami Vivekananda in time.

Swami Vivekananda Early Education 

He studied Sanskrit and Bengali languages even when he was young. Later he studied in a college at Calcutta. During this period he studied Eastern and Western philosophies. His father died before Narendra could complete his education. So he had to take up the responsibility as the head of the family. He had to undergo many difficulties. He lost peace of mind.

Swami Vivekananda and Ramakrishna Paramahamsa

In those days there lived a sage by the name Ramakrishna Parama Hamsa in a village Dakshineswaram near Calcutta. Narendra met him. Ramakrishna took Narendra as his disciple. He taught him all the Godly knowledge he knew. He named Narendra as ‘Vivekananda.’ In the year 1888 Ramakrishna passed away. Vivekananda took his place as ‘Guru’. In the year 1893 he attended the Conference of all religions at Chicago. He represented the Hindu religion. He delivered informative lectures about Hinduism and impressed the greatness of Hindu religion on all nations.

He traveled widely in America, England, France, and many other foreign countries. He had great many disciples in all these countries. It was Swami Vivekananda who for the very first time established Hinduism as an esteemed religion on the world platform through his enlightening and eloquent speeches in the West during his four years long stay there, beginning from the World Parliament of Religions in Chicago in September 1893. He disillusioned the westerners who thought of Hindus as bigots and Hinduism as a religion of mad.

Swami Vivekananda Return to India 

When Swami Vivekananda returned from the west in January 1897, he received a grand welcome from the Indian people. He delivered speeches in various states of India in response to the enthusiastic and warm welcome that he received from his countrymen. His speeches, as always, were so powerful and awe-inspiring that they raised a wave of vigor and vitality in people, which deluged the whole nation.

The establishment of the two great organizations, namely, the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission were, indeed, among the greatest gifts of Swami Vivekananda to posterity. These organizations are till date working on the ideals laid down by Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Swami Vivekananda and earnestly serving humanity.

How did Swami Vivekananda Died

Swami Vivakananda died at Beylur on 5th July 1902 at the early age of 39. He lived young, he died young, and he also had great expectations from the young people of the nation. He used to say, “My faith is in the younger generation, the modern generation, out of them will come to my workers. They will work out the whole problem, like lions. I have formulated the idea and have given my life to them.
